Merit Matters Event
January 17th, 2011Deputy Chief Maddox of Merit Matters is having an event this Thursday, January 20th at 7 p.m. at Labetti Post, located at 390 Hylan Boulevard
Staten Island, NY. All are welcome to attend. See their website for more information .
Roy Chelsen
January 11th, 2011Engine Co. 28 and Ladder Co. 11 regretfully announce the death of Firefighter Roy Chelsen. Roy was a member of Engine Co. 28 who responded to the World Trade Center on 9/11/2001. His actions that day saved the lives of many of his comrades, but he contracted cancer following his exposure to the toxic environment at Ground Zero. Last Sunday, after a long and characteristically brave fight with the disease, Roy died in his home among friends and family.
The wake will be on Thursday and Friday from the hours of 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lazear Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, located at 17 Oakland Avenue in Warwick, NY. The funeral will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Warwick Valley High School on West Street, also in Warwick, NY. Check back here for all relevant information.
Members:
- Be in full Class “A” uniforms, including white gloves.
- Start coordinating carpools to get up to Warwick over the next few days. The weather might get bad so the fewer drivers, the better.
- If you are in groups Saturday 9x, Bn-4 has those tours covered. You’ll have to mutual out of whatever other tours as necessary.
- Be dressed and ready at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.
- Check back here for updates. Email me for routine questions you think should be answered here; certain people have been on the phone all week and the fewer things they have to answer the easier they’ll have it.
- We may need drivers for an additional van on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Volunteer.
